You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If you are using Totem or Rythmbox, you have to middle-clik the "time slider" 
to go to a specific moment of the video/music track.
If you left-click on the timeline, nothing happens, you can only drag the 
slider using left-click.

I think a lot of user does not know the possibilities of the middle-
click but try to left-click the timeline.

I think we can have left-click and middle-click to do the same operation
safely.

IMPORTANT : If you look at the behaviour of a standard slider (like in
the mouse preferences), you can left-click OR middle-click to place the
slider at a specific place. Why Totem or Rhythmbox have different
behaviour?
