The compatibility issue with Windows XP (my comment 2008-05-30) seems to be related to DVD authoring, not to burning. I use dvdauthor and growisofs to burn DVDs and they seem to produce Windows XP incompatible DVDs since upgrade to Hardy. I tried making an ISO image using mkisofs and then burned it using Gutsy kernel and again using Windows XP. The result was a DVD, which isn't recognized as DVD in Windows XP and therefore cannot be played using Windows Media Player. Even if DVD burning seems to work better now in Hardy (kernel 2.6.24-19), I find it unuseful while the results have major compatibility issue.
