Yes, I know about rar. But according to http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/non-free/u/unrar-nonfree/unrar-nonfree_3.5.4-1/unrar.copyright rar is not free. While it is true that it is quite superior to unrar-free , I do not think that file-roller should only use rar. I don't know how file-roller handles the application choice, but I don't see why one would have to resort to the CLI because they chose to use a free package.
Ideal situation: If unrar-free is present and unrar is not, then file-roller should use unrar-free. If rar is present but unrar-free is not, use rar. If unrar-free and unrar are present, ask which to use. Maybe with 'rar' being the default choice.
