Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
This is not a exactly bug in one of the gnome components but in the way they're
set up in Ubuntu, I think:
Usually, sessions are not saved; however, when the session ends due to critical
laptop battery, the session is saved and then you're stuck with it forever, or
at least until you find a way to delete it. Since normally sessions are not
explicitly mentioned, I guess that new users will not even know what a session
is and why the same programs keep starting up when they log in.
Two possible solutions are either to disable automatic session saving or to
make auto saved session load only once.
