May 28th, 2008 and this bug still exists. Exactly as it is detailed before, gnomesplash goes away when Nautilus starts being loaded so you have to guess when the system is ready. I just commented this here because Ubuntu hardy comes with GNOME 2.22 but it seems that this detail doesn't mean that everything on GNOME will be working just fine and bug-free.
