I used Windows and in Notepad, I often opened non-text files.

Example, I would open executables and be able to find some meaningful
data. Sometimes, I found passwords for trojans. I discovered what email
address the keylogger send to, etc. I even saw some libraries that the
program called.

Maybe I want to open a image file and look if there is any human-
readable meta data or something.
