Update: It seems CCSM (CompizConfig) doesn't work *at all* To reproduce: 1. Install CCSM 2. play with the settings. Turn something noticeable, such as the desktop cube, on 3. If you can see the effect of step 2 (else goto step 4), go to System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual effects tab, and click a radio button. 4. Your settings in CCSM are ignored in favor of the (extremely simplistic) settings shown in the screenshot.
