ubuntu only distribute this software and doesn't writte it and the desktop team is small and overworked a lot already so this applet is not a high priority, you are welcome to discuss the issues on bugzilla.gnome.org directly with upstream though or attach a patch here if you want to contribute to get issues fixed in ubuntu
