kalaxy's "trick" does work. I also noticed that, in my case the problem is only displaying the shared folder/drives.
Example: smb://3rsys/ in nautilus shows a blank screen, but adding d$ (example of shared drive) or a shared folder name works.. (login window appears and the volume is mounted), without the need of using the "Connect to server" window in "Places" menu.
