i actually test & use fx trunk as my default browser, so i don't use fx
2.0.  also, i forgot to mention that the plugin does not show up in
konqueror's about:plugins either.  i even added more directories to
where it searches for plugins.

i've never used update-alternatives before.  i read its commands & options but 
i'm not sure how you want me to use it.  like this:
sudo update-alternatives --set 
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/i386/gcjwebplugin.so javaplugin_oji
