I'm just thinking: If this bug is not going to be fixed before Hardy is shipped, it might be a good idea to disable the dimming feature of gpm by default. New users will just be very confused when all of a sudden - sometimes with no obvious reason - the screen gets dimmed and won't come back up again. Just a thought.
