Have the same/similar behaviour on my 8.04 beta4 machine. I receive "The interface does not exist" if I press the configure button in gnome-nettool. But gnome-nettool does show the counter for this interface (eth0). This computer has only lo and eth0, no wireless.
System/Administration/Network works fine without issue, but System/Administration/Network-Tools does not.
