The bug is really confusing, gconf is a database where keys have values, gconf-editor is a graphical editor to change those. If you browse any key, edit its value and gconf get the update value the system works correctly. Now how whatever application is using what is stored that is whatever application business, not the gconf nor gconf-editor one
