Binary package hint: compiz

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

compiz:
  Installed: 1:0.7.2-0ubuntu1

This is on Hardy Heron Alpha6, compiz enabled with restricted nVidia
drivers. The problem happens both in Twinview mode and single display
mode.

Randomly when gnome terminal is the focus or not (it doesn't seem to
matter) it will be corrupted. The background will go transparent (even
with transparency disabled) and the previous 'frame' will be overwritten
with the new fame, causing the display to be corrupted. a CTL-L in the
terminal window redraws and fixes the problem. It only seems to happen
in scrolled areas; it could actually be a gnome-terminal bug but I've
never seen this happen on Hardy with compiz disabled. So go figure.

Attaching a screenshot.
