On installing Dapper Flight 6, in order to get sound from my PC speakers on a 
Sony Vaio TX650P, I must open gnome-volume-manager, enter 'File'->'Change 
Device'->'Realtek ALC260 (OSS Mixer)' and increase the Volume slider which is 
set at minimum.  Prior to this, no sound can be heard.

Also, the volume applet defaults to Headphone, but the pc speaker volume is 
controlled by PCM.  This issue is much less important than setting the volume 
correctly, IMO.

The device is the HDA/RealTek.
