Comment: Their way tentative fixes my issue - the ordering ISO-2022-JP,Shift_JIS,EUC-JP,UTF-8,CURRENT,ISO-8859-15 works perfectly for me. But I think it's difficult for "normal user" to modify gconf keys. So it's good to set this with ja.po as Hiroyuki says.
