Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome
Currently, some Ubuntu/Linux applications move items to ~/.Trash/ when deleting files, while other programs move the data to ~/.local/share/Trash/ . ~/.local/share/Trash/ seems to be the "newer" location, apparently it's recommended by the XDG Base Directory Specification (cf. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/13329 and https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/16427 ). The problem is that when the user right clicks on the trashcan in the bottom right hand corner of the screen in GNOME, only ~/.Trash/ gets emptied, while ~/.local/share/Trash/ does not get emptied. This is a security vulnerability, because a user could easily yot down a credit card number or password or similar in a file and subsequently delete it -- only it's not really gone, and a technical user has an excellent chance of finding it. ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public -- Empty Trash does not empty ~/.local/share/Trash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176475 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for meta-gnome2 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
