On Sony Vaio S4XP/B Laptop, the sound hotkeys work in the sense that
they are recognised by the operating system; however when it changes the
volume or mutes it adjust the "Headphone" volume slider in the volume
control which makes absolutely no difference to the actual volume.

The only way to adjust the actual volume is to adjust the PCM volume
manually.
