You seem to imply that the current print dialog doesn't work, reading the gimp bugs doesn't indicate that's true. We will consider the new dialog but that's not a security issue nor a frequent user demand so it might take some time though. About new versions there is the backport project working on making those available to stable users. Note that you can't ask for the crack of the day versions and expect stability, if you want the current code you can run the unstable version of the distribution
