I installed yelp-dbgsym per http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash, and then ran:

(no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". (gdb) Rhythmbox didn't launch.
