Hello Kees, Thank you for your prompt response. I had previously tried to rip a couple of tracks from that CD on a Windows XP machine and found that it attempted to load DRM software, with or without consent. This behaviour is tantamount to virus behaviour in my opinion. Yes, piracy is a problem but I own the original disk.
I suspected that there may be other hidden files capable of corrupting Feisty. As a newbie user I thought it best to raise the matter as I find now that Sound Juicer will not rip any .cda files at all from any CD I own, despite twice removing and reinstalling the complete program. So something is corrupted. However, I have since loaded a couple of other Ubuntu rippers which seem to behave as expected, so the problem is probably with Sound Juicer.
