I just experienced this issue, using Rhythmbox 0.11.2, getting the problem with and without the crossfade on, i don't know any solution... the sound works fine in all other applications, i tried at first with both audigy 1 and HDA Intel soundcard on my asus p5k deluxe mobo. still same problem... it only seems to happen on high bass, so songs with no bass plays fine... its a fresh gutsy install...
