I've the problem too since the last Update on Sep 18th morning. "gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi" gives me 96: ~$ gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi 96
gconftool --type float --set /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi 96 solves this issue. I think that the right value but wrong type is set for this gconf entry.
