Glad to know that you solve your problem, since it wasn't really a bug, i'm 
closing this report as invalid.
If you have another problem that you think it's a bug don't hesitate in report 
it, any kind of help is deeply apreciated..

By the way, in gnome-system-monitor you could press Ctrl + D or select
Dependencies under View and you will be able to see which process own
what, so you could try to identify the owner of your gzip/tar process
and hopefully find the source of the issue.
