Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp
Yelp consistently fails to yield meaningful results when searching. This problem is Yelp's failure to filter out "stop words" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_word). Savvy users know to not use these, but as search engines continue to improve their natural language parsing capabilities, even these users have come to expect that they can type phrases like, "find a file", or "the laptop failed to suspend" and get meaningful results. But, instead, Yelp simply returns the pages that have the largest number of "the", "to", and "a" terms... which means users are referred to the Display Manager, Ekiga, bzip2, and GhostScript pages with depressing regularity. Yelp should use a more sophisticated search algorithm at least, and possibly consider integration with one of the online search services (i.e. Google) to enhance the quality of it's search results. ** Affects: yelp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Yelp search algorithm needs to improve. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
