Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

I installed gnome using "apt-get install gnome", after a base ubuntu
install, but this doesn't install the Alacarte menu editor. When later
trying to add some menu items, I spent some time getting fustrated with
the in-built menu editor which doesn't allow you to edit menus. This is
misleading. Google searches find people right-clicking on "Applications"
and selecting "Edit", and getting "New Menu" and "New Button" items, but
these don't exist in the in-built menu editor. Again, this is misleading
and fustrating from a usability point of view.

The Alacarte menu editor should be installed by default when installing
gnome.

To reproduce, do a base-install of ubuntu ie. skip the main package
installation step, and manually install gnome etc, eg. "apt-get install
xserver-xorg gdm gnome".

To see the absolutely useless in-built gnome menu editor, do an "apt-get
remove alacarte".

Please include Alacarte in the gnome package dependencies!
