Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33472

Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
gdm package has script in (propably) prerm script that is trying to stop
gdm process before removal.

unfortunately my gdm crashed and this was the reason why I was trying to
reinstall (from console terminal) but I couldn't do this without gdm up
and running

so I had to turn it on and then as fast as possible switch to first tty
console and hit enter to apt-get --purge remove gdm... and I had to to
this before gdm will crash

I think that this should be changed in package. I understand that script
should stop gdm but it should skip this when gdm is already turned off.
