I'm pretty sure it would have been "chrislap", but maybe there was a
default of "ubuntu" which I accepted.  I don't know, it was almost a
year ago now...

Whatever I used, that's not really the point.  The partition is no
longer being used for the same purpose it was being used for before. 
If Ubuntu isn't going to keep the label up-to-date, then it shouldn't
use the label.  It knows where the file system is mounted, so it could
very easily warn me that "the file system mounted on /mnt/breezy is
97% full", which would be a lot more meaningful than identifying the
filesystem by a label which I have never previously seen.  (I didn't
know about the 'lshal' command until you mentioned it earlier, and I
guess most other users don't know it either).
