Comment: Oops, sorry, that might have been a red herring. That third assertion is printed as soon as I click on the Ubuntu logo to drop down the main menu, not at the time of triggering the lockup which occurs later after clicking through the sub-menus. I can get a stack-trace from the Ctrl-Alt-F1 console running gdb, and doing Ctrl-C while gnome-panel is spinning. But I don't know how to capture it to be able to send it to you. But it's very similar to the one I already sent. And still not many source files and line numbers. I'm working on this...
