Good point.  I always forget about that and assume everyone is on 8.x.
IMail 8.x is required for Declude to receive Auth info.  SmarterMail does
not yet support passing auth info to Declude, but it is supposed to be in
the upcoming 3.0 release.

I believe you have to be running Imail 8.0 or higher as well.
