> How does using ldap2alias change my backup mail structure?

On the backup, you create actual IMail virtual hosts in the form
storeforward.example.com, with example.com as a host alias. You also
ensure that the mailbox server can accept mail to, say,
mailbox.example.com in addition to example.com. Then you use
mailbox.example.com as the target domain in the aliases created by
ldap2aliases.

Yep, that's why you route via mailbox.example.com.

Completely preposterous. Doing it that way is like ordering a live-in
lover for your favorite spammer.

Vis-a-vis DNS, you can use HOSTS to force the mailroute to
mailbox.example.com, _or_ use DNS only to allow for multiple next hops
toward the mailbox server.

The backup will try to send mail to mailbox.example.com through either
the one (1) server it retrieves from HOSTS or however many MXs it
retrieves from DNS. There's no looping, since you'll be setting it up
to only connect to mailbox.example.com through your own new
mailroutes.

That's not going to happen.

HOSTS and 'nobody' are basically identical. HOSTS is easier to set up,
used 'onlyifyoumust' for servers whose user lists can't be accessed.
