But arent the messages scanned as an smtp connection when they are recieved
from the mail client?
Every single E-mail that IMail handles via SMTP -- whether it is incoming mail or outgoing mail -- comes in through port 25 on the IMail server.

However, Declude JunkMail will check to see if the E-mail is destined to a local user (incoming) or a remote user (outgoing), and then handle the E-mail appropriately.

When we say out going mail do we mean mail sourced from the web interface or
the lan?
The web interface is different, as it doesn't use SMTP to get the E-mail to IMail -- it's usually processed internally.

By "outgoing mail", I'm referring to any E-mail that isn't stored on the IMail server. "Incoming mail" refers to any E-mail that is stored on the IMail server.
