I am closing this old bug report since most of input-hotplug stuff have been implemented properly since then, and then we switched from hal to udev, making part of this discussion irrelevant. Then many people commented with not-so related issues. So this bug an obsolete mess now. Please open a new bug report if still having issues in unstable.
