This problem is being reported everywhere, and all of them are dealing
with the same glib version. I downgraded to 2.16.6-2 (the only lower
version I could still find in the repos), and despite almost nothing
else working, I was able to get some compositing going, and compiz
clearly loaded.
I'm not entirely sure where to go from here, so I'll leave it at that...
