Aborted with what messages at the end of Xorg.0.log ?

So you're saying that xserver-xorg-core 1.6.4 aborts while 1.6.3.901
does not? Probably a duplicate of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=548724 then ?
