xterm is normally setup to copy to the primary selection, and if that is not available, via cut-buffer. In the latter case, xterm uses "#" as a default character.
xterm can be setup to copy to the clipboard; the last comment appears to rely upon that. When I do this, I get the expected character copied. Can you still reproduce this issue?
