I've not yet tried the library, but I wanted to post my /proc/mtrr contents of the different kernels: 2.6.26 without PAT: reg00: base=0x00000000 ( 0MB), size=2048MB: write-back, count=1 reg01: base=0x7f700000 (2039MB), size= 1MB: uncachable, count=1 reg02: base=0x7f800000 (2040MB), size= 8MB: uncachable, count=1 2.6.29 without PAT: reg00: base=0x000000000 ( 0MB), size= 2048MB, count=1: write-back reg01: base=0x07f700000 ( 2039MB), size= 1MB, count=1: uncachable reg02: base=0x07f800000 ( 2040MB), size= 8MB, count=1: uncachable reg03: base=0x0c0000000 ( 3072MB), size= 256MB, count=1: write-combining 2.6.29 PAT: Zweiblum:~# cat /proc/mtrr reg00: base=0x000000000 ( 0MB), size= 2048MB, count=1: write-back reg01: base=0x07f700000 ( 2039MB), size= 1MB, count=1: uncachable reg02: base=0x07f800000 ( 2040MB), size= 8MB, count=1: uncachable The only one of these which provides usuable performance with EXA X acceleration is 2.6.26. Using XAA, both 2.6.26 and 2.6.29 were fine, I even imagine both were faster than 2.6.26 with EXA.
