(up-to-date Sid, intel GM965/GL960 card)

Any action that causes the video mode to switch back to tty
(ctrl-alt-F1, closing X) gives me a screen that's either blank or
contains some garbage pixels, and no more response to input. Switching
from 'intel' to 'vesa' drivers removes the problem. Compiling the
latest intel driver from git repository does not help. Curiously
enough, the hang can sometimes be gotten around by suspending and
un-suspending the laptop. This shows that X crashed with a bunch of
'fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server
":0.0"' errors.
