That doesn't seem to work.  I upgraded a laptop to current sid today,
and after the upgrade lshal hadn't picked up the new values.  The
problem might be that console-setup is not yet configured when hal is
triggered (which happens after the unpacking phase),
so /etc/default/console-setup doesn't exist yet.
