I've not actually seen the crash as I described it in http://bugs.debian.org/491205#10 anymore, though I do still have occasional (though very infrequent) total lockups of the X server. So I'll give this a try anyway. But the chance that I can report any meaningful results is close to zero. Thanks for the suggestion.
