The driver is chosen automatically when the X server starts, so no configuration should be needed in most cases (it's still possible to choose the driver explicitly in xorg.conf, of course, but dpkg-reconfigure is not the way to do that now). If the X server doesn't start with a minimal (or no) xorg.conf, a bug report is probably appropriate.
