Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics Version: 0.14.7~git20070706-2 Followup-For: Bug #461760
Hi, this bug is present also on a HP Compaq 6720s laptop. Here are the relevant bits of Xorg.0.log: ---8<--- (II) Synaptics touchpad driver version 0.14.6 (1406) Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics event device found (**) Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" (**) Option "SHMConfig" "True" (**) Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0" Query no Synaptics: 6003C8 (EE) Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics touchpad detected and no repeater device (EE) Synaptics Touchpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware. (EE) PreInit failed for input device "Synaptics Touchpad" (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics" (**) Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" (**) Configured Mouse: Device: "/dev/input/mice" (**) Configured Mouse: Protocol: "ImPS/2" (**) Option "SendCoreEvents" "true" (**) Configured Mouse: always reports core events (**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" (==) Configured Mouse: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50 (**) Configured Mouse: ZAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5 (**) Configured Mouse: Buttons: 9 (**) Configured Mouse: Sensitivity: 1 (II) evaluating device (Configured Mouse) (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Configured Mouse" (type: MOUSE) --->8--- The driver loads, but it can't find the hardware, thus it unloads. The mouse that it configures is an USB mouse I'm using, since the touchpad isn't working at all. Here are some commands I gave: ---8<--- $ gsynaptics-init GSynaptics couldn't initialize. You have to set 'SHMConfig' 'true' in Xorg.conf or XFree86.conf to use GSynaptics $ xinput list "Virtual core keyboard" id=0 [XKeyboard] Num_keys is 248 Min_keycode is 8 Max_keycode is 255 "Virtual core pointer" id=1 [XPointer] Num_buttons is 32 Num_axes is 2 Mode is Relative Motion_buffer is 256 Axis 0 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is -1 Resolution is 0 Axis 1 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is -1 Resolution is 0 "Configured Mouse" id=2 [XExtensionPointer] Num_buttons is 9 Num_axes is 2 Mode is Relative Motion_buffer is 256 Axis 0 : Min_value is -1 Max_value is -1 Resolution is 1 Axis 1 : Min_value is -1 Max_value is -1 Resolution is 1 "Generic Keyboard" id=3 [XExtensionKeyboard] Num_keys is 248 Min_keycode is 8 Max_keycode is 255 $ synclient -l Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled? $ --->8--- I also tried downgrading Xorg to the lenny version, it didn't even start (I don't know if the touchpad would've worked though). Please *really* consider fixing this bug. Is it also present upstream?
