Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2.1.0-2
Severity: important
Apologies if this bug is filed against the wrong package. I've installed
KDE on an HP530 laptop, and dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg says it does
not recognise the video hardware (Intel 945GME Express chipset). When
chosen manually the reconfiguration completes, but x does not start
because /dev/agpgart does not exist.
This is a standard Lenny install on i386. The kernel image is 2.6.22,
which includes both the agpgart.ko and intel_agp.ko modules. I added
both to /etc/modules and added alias char-major-10-175 intel-agp to
/etc/modprobe.d/aliases (as per
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/13824/ENG/relnotes.txt) - now both
modules are loaded automatically on booting, but /dev/agpgart still does
not exist so X still does not start.
X works fine using the vesa driver, albeit much more slowly. Grateful
for any help getting this driver working.
