Do you mean "the vmmouse doesn't move"? Most static config given by dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg is supposed to go away and be replaced by automatic configuration from the server at startup. If you know a reliable way to find out that the server is running within vmware, it might be good to talk to upstream about it.
