Which I've taken to mean yes. Is this correct?
I've done so much install and re-test that
I've lost track of what else I've tried to get this
to work. The big problem is things like blender
or anything that *requires* DRI/GLX won't run.
I'm very much needing to get some started on
learning some 3D cad stuff (which was the whole
reason for my upgrade in the first place).
DRI does attempt to work, but just running
glxgears results in....
Now there's something! This is the first time
it's actually ran in months. I just checked it
a few days ago and is what prompted my e-mail.
I'm using an old version off my laptop which gives
frame rate and what not so you can see the frame
rate. I (for the moment) get
1540 frames in 5.0 seconds = 307.851 FPS
1680 frames in 5.4 seconds = 313.957 FPS
1680 frames in 5.4 seconds = 312.190 FPS
1680 frames in 5.2 seconds = 320.479 FPS
which is 50% of original values and the wheels move
at a rate of about twice a second. The old version
would spin so fast it was mostly just blur.
Still has big problems, but this is better since it
doesn't wipe out my display!
I'm going to send this off then reboot. This acts like
it is software rendering at its worse. I couldn't even
run blender a couple of days ago. It was so slow it
hadn't come up after 2-3 minutes, but was trying but
didn't have the frame rate and the LCD was going
weird with multicolor stripes.
I'll send a second e-mail on the results after reboot.

You mean downgrading to Etch? To Sarge? Reinstalling would probably be
easier...

Other distros use Xserver 1.3 and the MGA driver 1.4.6.1 as Debian
testing does. If it work there, it will work in Debian testing too...

We have been waiting for you to reply during 4 months now. I asked you
to try upgrading to xserver-xorg-core 1.3 and xserver-xorg-video-mga
1.4.6.1 on April 24th, no reply.
The most likely chance to find a fix for such a bug is to test latest
upstream releases. That's what Xserver 1.3 and the MGA driver 1.4.6.1
are. Fixing this in earlier releases such as those in Etch is generally
hard and useless in the end, upgrading is easier.
I've not had a problem this severe since I ran Window for Workgroups
3.11!!!!
Unfortunately, you'll have to complain to Matrox about that. If they had
provided free drivers for Linux as they provided drivers for Windows, it
would be easier...
