Please just run /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3>&1 (from a VT console after X failed to try) and send us the whole output. It will gather all we need. I assume the installer used "ati" as a video driver in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Old ati driver (such as 6.6.3) had a bug in their detection code.
