Hi,
About 6 months ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding
detection of a Radeon X600 failing. Did you reproduce this problem
recently? With Xorg/Etch? Could you try with latest
xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.6.192 in experimental? Does it help if you
replace "ati" with "radeon" in xorg.conf?
Thanks,
Brice
Yes, replacing ati with radeon did make it work, so I haven't tried
recently.
I'll try with the current etch and latest experimental package and
let you know.

Doesn't look like it. With xserver-xorg 7.2-5 from unstable, and then
running
# dpkg-reconfigure -fnoninteractive xserver-xorg
xorg.conf still detects the card as apm. Also, setting it to ati
doesn't work either. I must set it to radeon.
The card shows up in lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV380 [Radeon
X600 (PCIE)]
