Well, never trust your memory.
I upgraded X again to the latest version, started X and took a copy of Xorg.log and the stdout+stderr-file I have. Triggered the bug. Xorg.log was exactly the same, no diff. But diffing stdout+stderr had something interesting. I'm *almost* certain there wasn't that much info before. :-) Apparently, there was. I just didn't do a real diff before. It seems to be a missing xf86OSRingBell symbol, and that was probably what happened when I tried to TAB-expand a command. Terminal tried to beep and X died. Found this link about it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/103902 So I'll just wait until a new evdev comes out. :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------- --- /var/tmp/.xerr 2007-06-26 12:08:14.000000000 +0200 +++ /var/tmp/.xerr2 2007-06-26 12:10:30.000000000 +0200 @@ -260,3 +260,67 @@ ** (xfce4-session:17353): WARNING **: Unable to launch "mail-notification --sm-disable" (specified by autostart/mail-notification.desktop): Failed to execute child process "mail-notification" (No such file or directory) +X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input//evdev_drv.so: undefined symbol: xf86OSRingBell +The application 'gnome-terminal' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce4-wavelan-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce4-clipman-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +Gdk-ERROR **: X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). +The application 'xfce4-session' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce-mcs-manager' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed +kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children. +kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed +kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children. + +(xfwm4:17374): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: ICE I/O Error + +(xfwm4:17374): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: Disconnected from session manager. + +(xfdesktop:17377): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: ICE I/O Error + +(xfdesktop:17377): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: Disconnected from session manager. +The application 'xfdesktop' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. + +(xfce4-panel:17383): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: ICE I/O Error + +(xfce4-panel:17383): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: Disconnected from session manager. +The application 'xfce4-panel' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce4-mixer-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce4-systemload-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce4-netload-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). +klauncher: Exiting on signal 1 +The application 'xfwm4' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children. +kdeinit: Exit. +kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children. +kdeinit: Exit. +The application 'xfce4-xfapplet-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +The application 'xfce4-battery-plugin' lost its connection to the display :0.0; +most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed +the application. +xinit: connection to X server lost.
