Hello, Please close the bug, although I never did find out what the problem was.
At the time I was forced to switch to the proprietary drivers, which I still use. I did try the xorg driver again recently, and it seemed to work well enough, except for a documented problem with slowdown while rendering a GL scene. I didn't test it much, but the old problem was immediately obvious, so I expect it's no longer an issue. Did you reproduce this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest xserver-xorg-core and drivers? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.
