Well,
I admit it looks like the network card is the cause. Xorg only crashes after I
try to make a network connection. I can open dillo, look at my filesystem and
open all kinds of graphics without xorg crashing. It's only after I try to
connect with the network where the screen just goes totally black. I tried the
2.6.20 kernel from unstable and had the same result. I also tried changing the
network card, but not only was I not able to get a network connection but I
also couldn't get xorg to start at all anymore. The funny thing is that the
network works fine when xorg isn't running. I guess it's just a matter of
figuring out what the read out from dmesg means. I could try to find an older
2.6.15 or 2.6.17 kernel from when etch was in testing, but I'll have to find it
first. 2.6.8 from sarge doesn't install because of some dependency thing.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys. Any ideas how to pursue this matter further?
